The Women’s Mental Health Program at the U of A has a clinic that specializes in the evaluation and treatment of women with mood and anxiety disorders in pregnancy and postpartum. Dr. Freeman directs a specialty clinic for women in the context of reproductive events, and she directs a research program looking at alternative therapies for perinatal depression.

Current treatment studies include psychotherapy and a nutritional supplement. Study treatments and evaluations are free of charge. The staff in the Women’s Mental Health Program can assist with referrals to other providers. Education is a large component of the Women’s Mental Health Program, including education of health care providers, medical students and residents, and the public about depression in women.
